Love and live-band music meet on “Mpenzi Wangu,” a new Tanzanian Dansi record from legendary African Stars Band, popularly known as Twanga Pepeta.
Released on September 20, 2026, the song seemed written and composed by the group’s CEO and veteran vocalist Luizer Mbutu.
“Mpenzi Wangu,” which translates to “My Lover,” carries the classic sound that has long defined Twanga Pepeta. Built around poetic Swahili love lyrics, lively percussion, and prominent horn arrangements, the record presents a warm romantic message while maintaining the rich live-band character associated with the group.
The song forms part of the 16-track Ça va bien album, adding another love-focused entry to the expansive project. Luizer Mbutu’s songwriting gives “Mpenzi Wangu” a personal touch, while the band’s instrumentation keeps the performance rooted in the Tanzanian Dansi tradition.
Twanga Pepeta is also preparing to take the project to the stage, with the official Ça va bien album rollout concert scheduled for September 26, 2026, at Climax Club in Mwanza, Tanzania. “Mpenzi Wangu” therefore arrives as part of the buildup to a major moment for the veteran band and its latest body of work.
