Harold and Kumar See Pineapple Express (2008), The Dictator (2012), and White Castle (2004). Lee’s desire to amuse people was evident even at his young age in a variety of ways. He was a member of Poway High School’s breaking dance squad as a child. He went to Palomar College after Poway High School, but he finally dropped out. Before launching into a successful comedic career, he worked in restaurants and cafes.

Bobby Lee’s early life

Robert Young Lee Jr., better known by his stage name Bobby Lee, was born on September 17, 1971, in San Diego, California, to Korean immigrants Jeanie and Robert Lee. Steve Lee, his younger brother, is also a musician and comic. In addition to co-hosting the Scissor Bros podcast with comic Jeremiah Watkins, Steve Lee is the host of The Steebee Weebee.

Bobby Lee went to Twin Peaks Middle School after leaving Painted Rock Elementary School, and then he went to Poway High School. He enrolled at Palomar College after high school but ultimately dropped out.

Lee began using drugs at the age of twelve. By the time he was fifteen, he was abusing heroin, methamphetamine, and marijuana. He underwent three attempts at drug rehabilitation until he sobrietized at the age of seventeen.

Following 12 years of sobriety, Lee relapsed to Vicodin after learning that he had been sacked, according to a producer. Following his second firing from the show, MADtv producer Lauren Dombrowski stepped in to support him and helped him regain sobriety. But after his father passed away from Parkinson’s illness in August 2019, Lee told his guest Theo Von during his appearance on the pilot episode of Comedy Central’s TV show “This Is Not Happening” on TigerBelly episode 224 that he had relapsed. After that, he entered treatment and resumed sobriety.

Bobby Lee’s Career

Lee worked at restaurants and cafes prior to starting his career as a comedian. Regretfully, the coffee business where he was employed abruptly closed in 1994. Following the abrupt shutdown of the coffee shop, Lee recalled, “I just went to The Comedy Store in San Diego and got a job.” After doing odd tasks at the club for a few months, Lee gave stand-up a go on one of their amateur nights. He began performing comedy sets on a regular basis within a year, and he was approached to open for Pauly Shore and Carlos Mencia. He then started working frequently at Pauly Shore’s mother Mitzi’s comedy club, The Comedy Store in Los Angeles.

At first, Lee’s parents did not support his comedic career since they thought he should carry on the family business. In a February 1, 2011 interview, Lee disclosed to comedian and fellow actor Joe Rogan that, during the initial years of his stand-up career, his parents did not communicate much with him. But after appearing on The “Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, things appeared to take a sharp turn around. His father called him to find out how much he had paid to be on the show, and he apologised for not supporting his comedic career.

Following that, Lee gave his family airtime on a number of programs, such as the 2007 program in which he proposed a Comedy Central sitcom about a Korean family in order to begin his own family.
