Renowned music professional and singer Melissa Viviane Jefferson popularly known as Lizzo, has announced her retirement from the entertainment industry.

The 35 year old rapper and singer made this known via a post on her instagram handle on Saturday.

According to her, she has had to deal with several issues of lies being told against her by clout chasers.

She wrote: “I ‘m constantly up against lies told about me for clout and views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how i look, i didnt sign up for this shit…i quit”

Melissa Viviane Jefferson professionally known as Lizzo has been in the entertainment since 2011. She came into the limelight after her third studio album “cuz i love you” debuted on the number 4 position on the Us billboard 200.

The singer has also debuted in movies like “uglydolls”in 2019 and also the American crime comedy drama “hustlers.”

The plus size entertainer has been a subject of body shaming and this led to her advocacy for confidence and body positivity. She stopped using twitter in 2020 due to people trolling her on the platform. Also, there has been interviews where she has spoken about her mental health and how it has affected her career.

In August 2023 three of her former back up dancers reportedly slammed her and her company with a lawsuit for sexual, racial and religious abuse amongst others. Her former creative director also showed support for the former back up dancers asserting the allegations to be true. Also film maker Sophia Nahili Allison also showed support to the same  dancers saying that Lizzo is unkind, arrogant and self centered.

Although the singer denied all of these allegations terming them to be outrageous and unbelievable, similar law suits have s been filled against her since then.

In february 2024, Lizzo’s request to end the three dancers case against her was rejected by a judge in Los Angeles.

She has been a 4 times grammy award winner, a billboard award winner also a BET and two soul train awards.

Lizzo is also an icon for the LGBTQ++ community and has a massive follower count of this community. When asked about her sexuality she said, “I personally don’t ascribe to just one thing.. That’s why the colors of the LGBTQ are a rainbow Because there is a spectrum and right now we just try to keep it black and white, that’s not just working for me.”

She is a well known flutist who began playing as a kid and kept playing it till adulthood, she has performed on several occasions with her special flute which she named “sasha flute. ”

Her BET awards performance earned her accolades and a standing ovation from the crowd which Rihana was included.

Lizzo has never been out of controversy since her entry into the limelight as sparked controversy at a Los Angeles lakers game dancing and twerking to her song “juice” on camera while wearing a thong revealing dress. She also called Chris Brown her all time best person in the world bringing in a lot of criticisms on her.
