Many of us struggle to find love as entertainers – Ugoccie

The assumption that entertainers are wild people and cannot love or be loved genuinely is wrong according to famous Nigerian singer, Ugoccie.

The singer while speaking in The Punch’s Saturday Beats interview yesterday, lamented what she described as a wrong notion most people hold about entertainers and how many of them (entertainers) struggle to actually find love.

According to Ugoccie, some people believe that entertainers have everything they need at their beck and call thereby, finding them unworthy of trust especially on issues that bother around love and relationship.

The singer opined that it would be fairer on them if people saw them as ordinary human beings and also loved them for who they are rather than thinking that they cannot love genuinely or be loved.

She said, “It is very difficult for entertainers to find love, because people already have a perception of who an entertainer is. They think we have wild lifestyles. It is very difficult for many people to see us for who we really are.”

Also speaking on her latest Extended Play (EP) titled, ‘Voice of The East’, the singer said the project was made for all irrespective of whatever part of the world they come from.

She noted that though the EP was made with a significant touch of the Igbo language in both the song titles and song lyrics, it is not only targeted at her fans in the South-East.

She admonished fans and music lovers across the country and beyond to accept the EP as she had put in hardwork to serve them the best.

Ugoccie said, “The EP was inspired by a lot of experiences I had in the past, and I wanted to talk about them in my usual style of storytelling. All the songs on the album have Igbo titles, because I wanted that representation for my people from the South East. However, it is not a body of work for just the Igbos. The beauty of music is in the melody and rhythms, not necessarily the language it is sung in. Many of the songs we enjoy are not even made in languages that we understand.”

Reflecting on the challenges she faces at this level of her career, she said, “I don’t like to call them challenges. I believe opportunities can be found in everything that presents itself to me as a challenge. As an entertainer, one major challenge is getting money to fund projects.”

Ugoccie is a multitalented Nigerian Singer, song writer, rapper and voice over artist who rose to prominence with the release of her hit single, “Do You Really Like Me?” featuring Kolaboy in 2021.

The hit song had reportedly gone viral especially on video sharing social media platform TikTok, where it trended for several weeks and eventually earned her the Rookie of the year nomination at The Headies in 2022.

Prior to her Headies nomination, Ugoccie had received nomination for the category of Next rated artist at the Naijatraffic awards as well as Artiste of the Year at the Top Naija Music Awards in 2021.

She has received several other nominations and won a handful in the subsequent years.
